It's Almost Christmas?

First off:

I AM DONE WITH FINALS.

Words cannot fully express how delighted I am. And in a few hours, I will get off work, my parents will arrive in Provo, we will hang all evening, and tomorrow night I will once again be back in my lovely Washington home.

The only thing I am not delighted about right now is that I honestly have not gotten into the Christmas spirit yet. I have seriously been so bogged down that I haven't had time to even think about the fact that Christmas is in five days. Five days! What's wrong with me?

But thankfully, once I finished my last final yesterday, I was able to slow down and I am finally starting to get excited. I'll try to spend these next few days making up for list time.

Oh My Disney

If you haven't been on the blog "Oh My Disney", you need to.

blogs.disney.com

It is really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, reaaaaaaaaally great. Especially if you're a Disney lover. And even if you aren't, it's still great.

Here's a full post I was just looking at, so you can get the idea of what they do:

The 20 Most Romantic Disney Movie Moments

1. Flynn Saves Rapunzel

Flynn says, “you were my new dream,” saves Rapunzel, and we basically devolve into a teary puddle on the floor.

Peter Pan

Sometimes I don't want to grow up.

I mean, I am so excited to become a journalist and help people and change the world, but sometimes I just want to be a kid again. I want to live with my parents and get home-cooked meals and play with my siblings and go back to the way things were.

I miss my old friends. I miss my sister and my brothers. I miss lazy Saturday mornings watching Monk with everyone. I miss Friday night pizza and movies. I miss my parents coming into my room and telling me they loved me every single night. I miss lying on the trampoline on warm sunny days. I miss my cats curling up on my lap as a I read a book. I miss four-wheeler rides around our property loop. I miss my dad's corny jokes and my mom's constant questions about how my day was.

I know I need to move on with my life, and I'm ok with that. I'm ready. But sometimes, just sometimes, I wish I could go back and be young again, just for a little while.

The Science of Happiness

This is a really cool video.

It seems like people are always searching for how to be happy. I'm not saying that this video covers it all, but it definitely shows one of the ways you can find happiness.

Watch the video, then try it. I promise you will be happier at the end of it.

Frozen

So first off, this was a really great movie. Like, a really great movie.

But this song was particularly great. Sure, it's catchy and sun by one of the greatest voices to ever serenade the earth (here's to you, Idina Menzel!), but it also has a great message. Sometimes we really need to just let it go. There are going to be a lot of times in life when people tell us that what we are doing is weird and crazy, but why should we listen to them? (Unless of course, it really is crazy, like becoming a serial killer or something. Then you should listen to them. But if not, just ignore those last two sentences.)

Be yourself. Don't let other people's opinions control what you do.

Sandy Hook: "Evil did not win."

I know I just posted something, but today is the one-year anniversary of the Sandy-Hook Elementary School shooting, and it is something that definitely deserves recognition.

When the shooting happened, I was in my Current World Issues class. My teacher, Mr. Monroe, turned on the news and we all watched in shock as we heard the report.

I did not have a personal connection with the shooting. I live about as far across the country as you can get, and I do not know anyone out there. But as I watched the reporters talk about what happened, as I saw the faces of the parents who had just found out that one of their children was a victim of this horrendous crime, I was so angry. How could something like this happen? How could someone be so cruel? I couldn't imagine being one of those parents. I just felt terrible.

I feel ashamed to say this, but I was upset with God too. How could he let something like this happen? I prayed about it a lot, asking to comfort those affected, but also asking for the understanding I needed to know why this was allowed to take place. I didn't have a huge revelation or anything, but after a little while I realized something I already knew: Our Heavenly Father gave us agency. Jesus died for us so that we could make our own choices, and sometimes those choices are bad. But without the bad, how would we know the good? Without evil, how could we recognize God's love? This video truly showed this principle. (Warning: Be prepared to cry.)

Check This Out

So I was scrolling down my Facebook page and I saw a post about this guy taking pictures of snowflakes, and I had to look at it.

Now you have to look at it.

Alexey Kljatov, a photographer from Moscow, Russia, took these incredible photos of snowflakes in his backyard. "I capture snowflakes on the open balcony of my house, mostly on glass surface, lighted by an LED flashlight from the opposite side of the glass, and sometimes in natural light, using dark woolen fabrics as background."

These pictures aren't awesome quality, so go here to see better photos and more of them

A Revelation

I think I have realized what I'm supposed to do with my life. That probably sounds kind of crazy right off the bar, but I'm serious.

This whole semester I knew I wanted to be a journalist, and that's what I've been studying. But I've noticed that almost all of my classes this year have talked about poverty and the importance of helping others. And yesterday, on my last day of classes, it occurred to me that that is what I need to do as a journalist. I need to use my writing to change the world and make it a better place.

That's a pretty big goal, I know. And I know I'm not going to change the world by myself. But there are issues and stories out there that are being overlooked, many that simply no one knows about yet, that I can bring to light. And once that story gets known, people will reach out.

I also want to start a non-profit organization. I don't know what for yet, because there are many issues that I feel strongly about, but I feel like that is something I really want and need to do.

So five years from now when you hear a story about a starving family in Africa, written by someone named Anne, read it. And share it.

Because its going to take all of us to change the world.

I'm a Hypocrite

So there I was, promising to write often and never let this blog turn into another failed attempt. And I haven't written in a week. But I'm here now! This past week has been pretty incredible. Here's the rundown:

On Friday I went to a dance performance called "Christmas Around the World", which inspired me to take up clogging again.

On Saturday morning I had a date, and we saw "Frozen", which was SUCH a good movie. I bought the soundtrack that night and have been listening to it pretty much nonstop since.

Saturday evening I had another date (I know, right?) and we went to Salt Lake and saw Ballet West's performance of The Nutcracker. Oh. My. Word. So good.

Then on Sunday I got to see the Christmas Devotional in the Conference Center. We were 13 rows from the front! It was a great devotional.

Ok, so that was my weekend.

The end.

Hello World.

So...this is my first post. This is not, however, my first blog. I think I have made around ten different ones before, but I was always terrible about keeping them up.

THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN.

I have no excuses now. Sure, I'm a full-time student with a part-time job and a tiny bit of a social life, but this is real.

The time is currently 1:03 a.m. I am supposed to be finishing an essay for my Sociology class that is due tomorrow, but these are the crazy times that I get inspiration. When I need to be doing something else, I get an idea in my head and it tortures me until I let it out. Today it was creating a blog, and this time sticking to it.

I don't really know what else to say. So...goodbye.

I have an essay to write.
